My First Blog Post

“Success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character.”

-Arnold Palmer

My name is Justic Brewton, an avid golfer who works and plays in the business. I have had a passion for golf for as long as I can remember. From the first time I swung a club, to the first birdie made. This game is unique in so many ways. It drives you away, it pulls you in. It will drive you to quit, it will drive you to improve. Whether you are the type of person who loves being out in nature alone and simply enjoying a beautiful day. Or if you are a lover of people and competition. No matter the type of person you are, this game will teach you about passion. It does not judge someone over age, or gender, or race, or ethnicity. It creates opportunities for anyone and everyone who plays it. I hope you enjoy all of my future posts talking about all of the enjoyable and wonderful things that this game has to offer. Thank you for reading!

Oh the Places You’ll Go…

Another wonderful thing about the game of golf is the destination of the game. What I mean by that is that you can be anywhere in the country, almost anywhere in the world and never be too far from a golf course.

Over time, and with experience you learn to appreciate a finely trimmed golf course. You learn what it takes to make a golf course be in supreme shape. As well, as what it costs to maintain and play one. As you travel from course to course you will have some favorites. The reasoning for those favorites could vary. It could be scenery, it could be the shape of the course, the layout of the course, or even because of the employees/staff.

I am writing this post because I am getting the chance to play one of my favorites this weekend. Lost Key Golf Club, in Perdido Key, FL. This is a truly breath taking track. Water and trouble, everywhere. The greens typically roll about a 12 on the stimp meter. A par 71, with 4 par 5’s makes it unique as it is. But when you include the level of difficulty of this golf course it is truly amazing. I’m going to put together a game plan of how to best attack this course and see how it goes!

I am looking forward to checking back in with you guys and telling you how it went! Thank you for reading and goodluck out there!

My Notable Experiences

So, whether you play golf 5 times a week or whether you play golf once every two months. You have most definitely had some noteworthy experiences; good or bad. Or really, really bad. However, I had one of my great experiences this past week.

I was playing on my home course, Stonebrook Golf Club. I was playing with three buddies who were in town for the weekend. We teed off just after noon on a Saturday afternoon. I had been playing fairly well leading up to that day. So we teed off the first and it was a mere par for me. Nothing special. We go to hole 2, par 5. Great drive, second shot pin high off the green, chip and a putt. Birdie. I then par holes 3 & 4, nothing noteworthy. I stupid bogey on number 5 was a bit of a setback, my only bogey of the day. Then I go onto hole 6, a short par 4. I hit a great drive but have an awkward, tricky yardage coming into a middle pin, 48 yards. Well, I proceeded to one hop dunk it for an eagle. I carry that momentum onto the 7th, a lengthy par 3. Playing at 193 yards, I hit a 6 iron to about 3 feet. Birdie. I then proceed to par the 3 holes before my next birdie coming on hole 11. I then go on another par streak from holes 12 through 16. Once I get to 17 I realize I have a chance to shoot my career low, 66. Having that thought in my mind I hit a great drive followed by a great wedge to about 10 feet. Boom, another birdie.

So, here I am standing on the 18th tee box with nothing short of a birdie to shoot 66 being on my mind. My palms start to sweat now. I shake it off and continue to work the driver right down the middle of the fairway. I now have 135 yards to a back left pin between me and a round of 66. Beginning to shake a bit, I grip my Pitching Wedge and approach my Bridgestone RxS golf ball. The shot proceeds to land about 8 feet from the hole.

Standing over that putt I was trembling. Back goes the stroke, and the putt lips out. Par for 67.

This heartbreaking day was still a great day and moments like this make the game the greatest game in the world.

Why do YOU play?

One of the many beautiful things about this game is that there are so many different reasons to play it. Whether you play to simply get outside and enjoy mother nature, or if you play because you love the competition with your friends. There are no wrong reasons to why you love the game.

Me personally, I love the ability you have to meet new people and network yourself or your businesses among potential clients. I have met many people that have helped me gain a tremendous amount of knowledge in life. I have met best friends, and colleagues through this wonderful game.

It creates chance to see self accomplishment and also teaches you a lot of important life lessons. Just over the course of one round of golf, I can promise you that you will learn how to persevere through tough times, relish on the great times, and learn to love the little things.

So now I ask you, what is your reason?
